Archdiocese of Las Vegas and Diocese of Reno reassigned to join new Ecclesiastical Region XIII
During the USCCB convocation on November 15, a proposal was presented to reassign the Archdiocese of Las Vegas and the Diocese of Reno from Region XI to Region XIII. By unanimous vote, the bishops approved the reassignment.

Pope Francis today appointed four local priests as new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
The bishops-elect are: Msgr. Albert Bahhuth, 66, pastor of Holy Family Church in South Pasadena; Father Matthew Elshoff, OFM, Cap., 67, pastor of St. Lawrence of Brindisi Church in the Watts area of South Los Angeles; Father Brian Nunes, 58, the LA Archdiocese’s vicar general and moderator of the curia; and Father Slawomir Szkredka, 49, professor of biblical studies and coordinator of human formation at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo.
Pope Francis Appoints Fathers Michael Pham and Felipe Pulido as Auxiliary Bishops for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego
The Holy See today announced that Father Michael Pham, 56, Vicar General of the Diocese of San Diego and pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Mira Mesa, and Father Felipe Pulido, 53, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Yakima, Wash., have been named auxiliary bishops for the Diocese of San Diego. The announcement was made at noon, Rome time (3 a.m. Pacific Time), in a statement released by the Vatican Press Office.
Meet the U.S.’s newest archbishop and leader of the Church in Las Vegas
“God, is this right?” Archbishop George Leo Thomas prayed when he was first appointed to lead the Church in Las Vegas in 2018. He was moving to the deserts of southern Nevada after 14 years in Montana’s Rocky Mountains and almost 30 years in Seattle. “I’ve gone from rain to snow to sun,” Thomas quipped to CNA over dinner in Rome on Sunday. One of only two people the then-bishop knew in his new diocese at the time, his cousin, reassured him that while “everyone knows Vegas, fewer people know Las Vegas.”
U.S. Bishops overwhelmingly approve 10-year plan to address pastoral needs of Hispanic Catholics
On June 16, with 167 supporting votes out of 171, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops resoundingly approved a comprehensive plan aimed at responding to the needs of Hispanic/Latino Catholics in the U.S. and strengthening Hispanic/Latino ministries across the country at the national, local and parish level. The last time the U.S. bishops put forth such a plan was in 1987.
